National Geographic: The Ultimate Dinopedia iPad App
I helped build an immersive digital experience for children to explore the world of dinosaurs. It incorporated intuitive navigation design, which allowed children to drive their own experience. With a layered interaction and iPad-exclusive content for each dinosaur, it featured audio stories, fun facts, videos and an interactive family tree.
The Challenge
We were tasked with taking a 272-page hardcover dinosaur reference book and designing an exciting experience for 7- to 10-year old children. We had to identify an intuitive and playful way for children to discover content, audio and video—without interfering with the beautiful prehistoric imagery.
My Role
Concept Ideation: I evaluated the best way to transform the The Ultimate Dinopedia print edition into a fun and functional children’s iPad app.
Design Execution: I designed all of the assets of the app’s interface, including the navigation and interactive content. I ensured that the app designs were true to the original print format and optimized for children, both functionally and aesthetically.
Experience Strategy: Throughout the experience, I determined the best way to integrate custom audio for each dinosaur represented in the app.
Coordination: I worked in a hyper-agile process, overseeing the design team and working closely with the development team to execute the product and deliver on an aggressive deadline.
